PERCUSSION METHODS
Percussion Methods is essentially a percussion ensemble class that meets during the school day. The purpose of this course is to offer advanced understanding of percussion performance. Dowling Catholic is among very few high schools that offer a course specified for percussion. This is an exciting opportunity for the Dowling Catholic Percussionists to perform more interesting, exotic, and exciting literature - while learning more about how much pride can be fostered from being a percussionist.
A reason this course exists is to offer percussionists more opportunity to play. This course typically takes the place of performing in one of the concert bands, and gives the opportunity for those in the concert bands as well as percussion methods to participate more often. This class should be considered an extension of the band program – just as concert band, symphony band, and the jazz bands are.
The focus will be on individual techniques, performance practice, performance etiquette, musicality, sound quality, and music execution. And through these – we will help you build a better sense of responsibility, initiative, perseverance, compassion, and respect for your colleagues, and your art.
