Color Guard at Dowling Catholic High School

The color guard is a nonmusical section that provides additional visual aspects to the performance. The marching band and color guard performance generally takes place on a football field while the color guard interprets the music that the marching band is playing via the synchronized spinning of flags, sabers, shields, or other pieces of equipment, or through dance. The colorguard uses different colors of flags to enhance the visual effect of the marching band as a whole.

The color guard performs at ½ time of home football games as well as at marching band competitions throughout Iowa and Minnesota from August through October. Rehearsals, including a weeklong camp, begin in July. Both men and women are encouraged to participate. Tryouts are held in April.

Winter Guard at Dowling Catholic High School

The Winter Guard typically rehearses from October through December and performs at the Iowa State Drill Team Competition at Vets in December. Other competitions can be added to the calendar as seen fit in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Kansas City.

2004: "Forca" by Nelly Furtado featured the team in long brown tunics with blue lycra pants accompanied by bronze and blue flags and large blue backdrops. The two minute routine ended with a lateral toss to their knees. This routine ranked a Division I rating and Dowling's first ever placing at the State level. 3rd Place!

2005: "Home" featured a more blues/hip color guard routine which gave the team a Division I rating.

2006: did not compete

2007: "Best of You" by the Foo Fighters features a rifle trio made up of Taylor, Sarah, and Kayla along with many other flag tosses and exciting drill movements!
